Do teachers get full sick pay ???

My husbands been in hospital since yesterday with suspected gallstones . He's been off yesterday and today and is going to take the whole week off ( should be home tonight ) just wondering really , if he would get full sick pay as he's never been off sick ?? And does he need to hand anything in ? Thanks

Yes, for a week he should get full pay. He'll need to self-certify for a week, but if he needs longer he'll need a doctor's note.

If he's on standard teaching terms he gets weeks and weeks of sick pay, don't worry.

Oh that's great news thanks ! He's also got a urine infection so he really can't go back , was worried as we are so skint this next month . Bless him

Don't know if it makes a difference how long he's been working, or if it's an academy, but otherwise, in a "normal" state school it should be 6 months' full pay, then 6 months half pay. That's what is was for me (although I actually went back after 2 months), but I had been working there for years and years.

As others have said teacher sick pay is very good, but in most schools it'll be 5 working days self-cert then a sixth would need a doctor's note. When he rings in sick tomorrow he'd be best to clarify it with the person doing the cover, and some will want a call every day others take a more relaxed approach.
