Good evening one and all,
I have name changed for this as some of my previous posts have indicated where I live roughly and I want to keep anonymous

I’m looking for a new job. I’ve worked in early years (school and nursery) for close to a decade and have essentially become a bit stuck. I’m in a small work place now and I can’t go any higher (in short, no ones going anywhere) - whilst I’m generally happy it doesn’t have much long term prospects and there are a couple of people there who are just getting at my mental health. It’s time to move on. I’m on good terms with management but if stress levels are high there’s no reasoning.

A post has come up which I find very appealing and suits me down to a T. But there’s a couple of things I would appreciate some advice for:

First, I’ve interviewed there before! However this was 6 years ago. Same head (it’s a school) - is it even worth it? I’ve gained so much experience since then, further qualifications, grown considerably as a person. I’m a much better person now! The feedback tbh was amazing from them and she essentially said I didn’t get it as it was for the older children and she felt I had more experience with younger (true). This could have been true or it could have been an excuse, I don’t know. But the current role on offer sounds perfect for me and I really was sad the first time as it was lovely there. Am I being daft to reapply?

Second, they state on the form that they will seek references before interview!!!! This could be majorly problematic! I am on good terms with management but this is so awkward and some people leaving have had to deal with some real crap in notice period (I did at last job!) I’ve been there 4 years I don’t want to damage a good work relationship for potentially nothing.

And third, time off for potential interview! I’m in a nursery that’s so ridiculously short staffed and anyone of sick gets slated and normally threatened to come in anyway. I get a non working day each week (I do 11plus hour shifts) - is it awful (if I even get asked for interview!) to explain and request it being moved? It’s a school- I know not easy to just jiggle things. It’s so hard to ask for time off (another reason why long term isn’t a good idea)

I really am excited to apply for this yet terrified! Any advice on these matters would be appreciated!
