Overpaid what do I do?

I started work last month, the manager told me on my first day that as I'd been employed before this months cut off for pay, I'd get paid on payday. She said I needed to work half the month over the next two weeks. I agreed. A situation arose where I needed to leave the job and I tried calling the manager about 20 times over 3-4 days. She didn't answer or ring back. In my frustration I rang head office who accepted my resignation over the phone and said the manager would get back to me the following day. I explained that I'd been paid but only worked a fraction of the hours, she told me the manager would sort all that out when she rang. That was 3 weeks ago. She hasn't rang. I have taken what I think to have been my earnings from the money, but with no contract, no payslip or any contact what do I do now? It's not a lot of money but I have no way of contacting the manager as I didn't keep her number. Will they send me a letter asking for it back? Has anyone been in this situation?

Yes they will ask for it back. Maybe not straight away but it will be picked up at some point. Either write to your manager, as you must have an address, or email. Ask how they intend to recoup the overpayment and request a response within 7 days. Send the letter recorded delivery and keep a copy.

Put it in a seperate account until you hear from them.

What did head office HR say about your lack of contract or payslip? You are entitled to a payslip on the day you get paid.

  • @flowery* they were the ones sorting the contract, apparently it was coming out in the post to me but it’s never arrived.

Well yes, exactly. Administering and processing the start, end and payments relating to your employment are for them to deal with, rather than your line manager.

Have you definitely been overpaid? Could it be holiday pay?

Fluffytheevil1 · 20/04/2019 23:22

I only worked 4 days. This pay was double that
