Is 53 too old?

So. I've been out of my career for 20 years. DH has same job so I've kept up with developments.
Has anyone else started again in their 50's?
Thanks.

I'm the same age as you and am doing my masters degree so no, it's not too old.

RickOShay · 14/04/2019 23:52

I am 51 tomorrow Grin
I am starting an OU degree in October, so no imho you are not too old.

I am 47 and want to change career (don't ask me what doing, it changes by the hour!) You are never too old to do anything in my opinion.

Don't know until you try. Go for it!

I'm 49. I went back to work 6 months ago after 14 years as a sahm. I have just resigned though because it was terrible and am returning to my pre-kids role.Do my experience is that yes you can get back to work, but there may.e a few false starts along the way.

PositiveDiscipline · 17/04/2019 09:50

Neolara

What do you think made the different between the false starts and getting your most recent role? I've been applying for a few jobs and found navigating job sites very disheartening. Then when I applied for roles that I have perfect skills for, I've not even had an acknowledgement.

Is it just a keep going and numbers game?

Thanks all. Scary thought, but worth a try I guess.
Good luck to everyone starting again out there.

Nrolara How did you find your first job after a gap of 14 years? Hope you won't mind me asking what kind of role it was. I am ready to do anything, still not getting interviews.

I'm 52 and starting work tomorrow in retail. I'm really looking forward to it. I've been self employed and also worked alongside my partner renovating properties. I feel I'm too old for labouring, decorating and shovelling s###. I will be in a role more suited now that I'm older. It's only 20 hours a week, which will give me some pocket money and will keep me in the public loop rather than becoming invisible as a housewife.
