How to advertise term time only part time job

icklekid · 13/04/2019 05:33

So currently trying to recruit a part time term time only school business manager in Nottinghamshire. This could be a brilliant job for someone looking to go back to work after being off with children. Hours can be negotiated and training arranged for someone with the right skill set. We are however only a small school and can't afford to pay vast sums of money to advertise. Where would you suggest to prioritise so people see the advert? Thanks

Local council?
Local paper website?

Its the type of job I look for and I usually Google part-time work locally and go with the first few hits...

icklekid · 13/04/2019 05:41

Thank you we have currently listed with local council website but interesting to consider if newspaper is worth it too if people do look there..

Whereabouts in Nottinghamshire? It’s exactly the kind of job I’m looking for! Grin

Blastandbollocks · 13/04/2019 05:41

TES?

Nacreous · 13/04/2019 05:42

My area has a local "public sector jobs" website which covers everything like council posts, libraries, charity stuff etc. I assume it's probably fairly affordable as it's run by the council?

icklekid · 13/04/2019 05:44

Tes is thousands of pounds so not possible sadly. They didn't even post my head teacher job there!

Our school has their jobs on their website. Occasionally, they’ll send a ParentMail message asking if anyone wants a job. Lots of the parents work in my dds school.

icklekid · 13/04/2019 06:02

Yes it's on our website and information went out in latest newsletter. Not against parents with the right skills set working at the school!

Our local childrens centre had a jobs board, have you thought of there?

MaverickSnoopy · 13/04/2019 06:13

For a role like that I think you'll get a fair amount of applications just by putting it on your website. So many people who want term time only looking through all local school websites.

Make sure that it comes up on Indeed as this is where people who might not think tt hours are out there will be looking. Also put it on LinkedIn - approaching people via LinkedIn can also work. At a push you could put a mention in the school newsletter. We have a weekly one and ours recently advertised the administrator post.

icklekid · 13/04/2019 06:14

Ohh no I hadn't thought about that thanks for the suggestion @zigzagbetty

Thanks @mavericksnoopy why didn't I think of LinkedIn??! Will do that now. Will look into indeed too.

The DfE has a new link 'Teaching Vacancies'
I thought it was only for Teacher posts, but I've just done a quick search and a couple of admin assistants come up, so you should be able to advertise a Business Manager.

Fifthtimelucky · 13/04/2019 06:39

Jobcentre?

imsorryiasked · 13/04/2019 06:41

We had success on our local town website who have ads - they're very low cost, but get picked up by job listing sites. Gum tree was also worth it too.

iMatter · 13/04/2019 06:43

Hmmm, Mumsnet....? 🤔

pisspants · 13/04/2019 06:45

you could also try posting the job on some local Facebook pages? that would be free and you'll get people sharing it and tagging in people they know who are looking for that sort of job

icklekid · 13/04/2019 07:08

@exLtEveDallas that's really interesting I thought it was only teachers too. Will definitely look at that

Thanks for all the suggestions

For east mids school jobs you are looking at:
emss
Indeed
Iinked in
Eteach /fejobs

Loads of other sites seem to steal it off there! We got a big response from indeed...too big a response !

Make sure the ad is clear to be school hours/tto and show both fte salary and actual salary

mamaduckbone · 13/04/2019 08:03

We advertised in the local parish magazine and surprisingly had loads of responses through that.

Pinkprincess1978 · 13/04/2019 08:08

I advertise for schools - by far the best feee advertising is indeed. Make sure you click 'do no optimise my job' and it's free.

We haven't used it yet but heard about google for jobs.

Have you signed up for DofE jobs advertising yet? It's newish, we only signed up a couple of weeks ago but it's free.

If you are in the north east there is jobs for schools north east - not free but only £200/£400 per year (cost depends on school and also we have a MAT discount.

Do you have a Facebook page? That's always good to spread word plus you could put it on school newsletter, you never know who a parent might know.

WhiteDust · 13/04/2019 08:08

What do 'INDEED' charge?

WhiteDust · 13/04/2019 08:09

Sorry, just seen it's free.
There's you're answer OP. You'll reach a wide audience through indeed.

TooStressyTooMessy · 13/04/2019 08:15

Frankly if it is term time only and flexible then that is the holy grail of jobs for many people. I agree with PP, put it in the free places suggested and see if you can get it to spread by word of mouth. Round here they job would be filled within about 2 minutes with minimal advertising.

If you wouldn’t mind parents / carers of children already at the school applying then also put a poster in the window / on the notice board.
