Freelance websites

I just discovered that Upwork, a freelancer website who I very occasionally do work through, is going to start charging for people to even apply for jobs Hmm. I've been feeling already that that site is a real race to the bottom in terms of fair pay, and finding decent jobs on there is challenging, to say the least, so I'm hoping to find something better to move to.

I'm a member of Reedsy, which I've found really good so far as it's a bit more exclusive and aimed at matching established publishing professionals (which I am, offline) with mostly decent quality clients. But I don't want to have all my eggs in one basket.

I'm also aware of People Per Hour, although I'd have to start paying for that too as I didn't find a client in my first three months of membership many years ago. Are there any other sites freelance writers, editors and proofreaders have had success with? where clients don't expect you to write thousands of words for a couple of quid

Nah. All those sites are a race to the bottom. Much better to spend your time honing your website text, training, and contacting better prospective clients!

I still get a fair bit through PPH but I have been with them for ages. I won't try to pick up new clients through there as the first £500 of fees is so hefty.

I also do some bits and pieces for a travel content site which is better paid and fills gaps when I'm not busy elsewhere.
