Due back to work after maternity but don't want to go back! Any suggestions for work from home ideas or what else I can do?

OP posts:
SeventhWave · 01/04/2019 18:12

How much of an income will you need?

Princessmama18 · 01/04/2019 18:13

£500 monthly

You will probably need childcare as well
There aren’t many (if any) jobs you can do while looking after a child

Princessmama18 · 02/04/2019 20:27

Childminding would allow you to work from home whilst still looking after your own child.

BetterEatCheese · 03/04/2019 01:49

Definitely childminding. I did it for 2 years until dd went to Pre school for the same reasons. £500 pm shouldn't be too tricky

Princessmama18 · 03/04/2019 08:19

Would love to but I'm not a qualified child minder x

OP posts:
LaurieFairyCake · 03/04/2019 08:24

Yes, get qualified. How much time do you have?

Princessmama18 · 03/04/2019 09:13

2 months

OP posts:
TeddyIsaHe · 03/04/2019 09:15

Did you get maternity pay from work? Because if you don’t go back you will have to pay it back.

Unless you’re childminding you’ll have to find childcare as WFH jobs require you to work, not look after your child.

Princessmama18 · 03/04/2019 09:19

No didn't get maternity pay

Would be looking for a new job to go to

I gave up my office job and work 2 evenings at a local pub on the bar when DH has our son.

It gives me adult interaction and helps with bills

adeo1929 · 03/04/2019 09:25

You don't necessarily need childcare, it depends what you do. Could you start your own business? What do you enjoy doing that you could sell to other people, product or service? I am in the process of starting my own business and I'm able to work on it while my 9 month old naps and in evenings when partner is home.

Thirtyrock39 · 03/04/2019 09:25

I did the same- worked in a local pub in the evenings - brought in about £500 with tips and meant didn't need to pay and childcare , didn't need an extra car etc and was pretty good fun although the late nights weren't always great with a toddler waking up at 6am
My friend has an admin job with Nct which she does from home in the evenings

Princessmama18 · 03/04/2019 09:42

I have thought of maybe doing 2 nights a week! The thought if leaving DD is horrible Sad

OP posts:
Hoppinggreen · 03/04/2019 10:19

You might be able to work around a napping baby but once they get more mobile it’s going to be hard

Princessmama18 · 03/04/2019 11:37

I can work when DH is home, evenings/nights thinks it's more me not wanting to leave DD Sad

OP posts:
Falafel19 · 03/04/2019 13:25

Well the reality of working while minding a child at the same time is even more horrible so either way you'll need childcare and need to leave her with somebody while you work.

Princessmama18 · 03/04/2019 23:31

I'm sure people do do it, hense me asking for ideas/suggestions but thank you for your help Grin

OP posts:
Falafel19 · 04/04/2019 08:34

Ask most people who have worked at home while minding their children at the same time (like me) and they will tell you it's stressful and nearly impossible and realistically you will still need childcare.

DharmaInitiativeLady · 04/04/2019 08:41

Totally impossible to work at home during the day whilst looking after a child. God knows, I've tried (my nursery bill is 2k per month). But it simply cannot be done.

Childminding is the obvious exception though

Princessmama18 · 04/04/2019 09:53

Doesn't have to be the day...

OP posts:
adeo1929 · 04/04/2019 10:52

I definitely suggest looking into what goods / services you could offer. Like you say, you have evenings. It's definitely doable - it could potentially take some time to build up though. I'm due back to work in June, which I'll be doing part time while continuing to build my own small business with the intention to eventually be able to quit. I would also advise looking at passive / semi passive income.

Princessmama18 · 04/04/2019 11:58

Thank you adeo

I'm wracking my brain as to what I could do, I no good at making things/not very arty but will keep thinking.

Might look into night work for the time being as DH will be home for DD and just express milk for the night I guess Confused

Hope your work from home venture works out xx

Hello i take surveys whenever i'm less busy at home, and i make about $5-$25 daily at my free time, I made up a list of survey sites i work with here>>> bit.ly/2uxgUvI
You can go through them and pick the best one for you as their payout varies... you can also sign up to all so you can have unlimited surveys to take daily.
Goodluck
