Employment without warning

Advice please on dismissal with out warning. Asking for somebody else
In a job cleaning for elderly and disabled people in their homes. Often having just an hour to clean a 3 bed house. Contracted to work 20 hours a week. She has lost a few clients and now only has 12 hours a week but they still pay her the 20 hours. Today she had a call from the office to say that recently 5 people have asked for different people to do the cleaning. She asked why but they said they couldn’t tell her and the manager will ring her tomorrow. She is worried she will lose the job. Surely they should tell her what she is doing wrong so that she can have a chance to address it? A while ago one complaint was that she didn’t move ornaments just dusted round them. She said the time constraints means she can’t do the job thouroghly. She just wondered what her rights are. Thanks

How long has she worked there?

Depends on her length of service. More than 2 yr or less?

Yes they can dismiss her then, as long as they give her the correct notice.

She needs longer than an hour to clean a 3 bed house- surely the house owners know that? Maybe they've complained because it's not as clean as they'd like.

There is restriction on time as it is a company that has a contract with the local council and she only has an hour to clean a house. It’s minimum wage too. She also only gets a certain amount of time to get between clients and doesn’t get time for lunch. The worse thing is they haven’t told her what she had done wrong so that she can change it if possible.
The manager is calling her tomorrow and if she doesn’t get anywhere she will contact head office

She'd be better off setting herself up as an independent cleaner and getting her own private clients. She'd easily be able to cover 20 hours a week with fewer clients doing 2-3 hours per client. Being her own boss she doesn't have to put up with being treated badly and she'll get time for a lunch break!

As stated upthread less than 2 years in her current role, they can hire and fire if they do the statutory minimum. If they do part company she needs to make sure they pay notice period and any accrued holiday pay.

Thanks for your advice. She had a meeting yesterday with the manager and they told her they’d had complaints. She saw 2 of the clients afterwards and they said they hadn’t complained but on had had a call form the company asking about her. The other one said she would tell her if there was a problem before complaining tomthe company. Anyway she had decided to leave and handed in her notice. She’s had lots of other problems with petrol money not being paid and not being allowed to have holiday. She gave a months notice but had 2 weeks holiday to use so they said she could just work 2 weeks
