My husband accepted a job with the verbal agreement the employer would salary match his current salary of 20,000. The job is term time only so salary is pro rata.
The written job offer arrived today:
"The appointment is offered at a salary of £21,693 per annum, pro rata of the advertised grade of Grade 6"
I read this as the salary of 21,693 will be pro rata-ed down to term time only hence £16,000 odd!!?? am I reading it correctly???

I read it as the salary has been pro rata’d already from the FTE of grade 6. Can you find the payscales online anywhere? If not, best to just give them a call in the morning to clarify.

I’ve been corresponding with HR about my new salary today as it happens, and the email I got from them expressed my part time salary as “xxx, pro rata of your FTE of xxx”.

He needs to call them for clarification as that figure could be pre- or post- pro rating.

I've just looked at support staff pay scales and £21,693 is a full time (37 hour per week, 52 weeks per year) pay amount, before Pro Rata. How many weeks is he going to be paid for?

Why the heck did he accept a verbal agreement? He shouldn't have accepted anything until it was in writing!

How it is written is the standard way to give the full amount BEFORE being pro rata.

Is he paid by the council? If so, it is surprising he would have been offered a salary different to what is paid on standard band. Could there have been a misunderstanding at interview and they assumed he meant over £20k before pro-rata, as that's how they would refer to any salary?

all sorted thanks all, it was their mistake x
