Not entitled to paternity leave any other options?

My husband had to change jobs this year and on his starting date I would have been 16 weeks pregnant.

I understand we are not entitled to paternity or parental leave as he will not have been working with the company long enough.

My question is what can we do so he has some time off with the baby? His new company want a months notice for any annual leave booked. Do we just book two weeks off at the latest possible time the baby could arrive so we know the baby will be here and it's just tough luck if the baby arrives earlier. If that time is available that is as it will be during August so prime holiday time.

I was thinking we could write an email to his manager and ask if his annual leave dates could be flexible within a particular date range but I understand this probably won't be possible as they need to schedule his work.

Had anyone else been in this situation if so what did u do?

Haven’t been In the situation, but could you ask to have paternity leavr anyway? They might be sympathetic and allow him flexibility in his annual leave because it’s baby, not just messing them around for a holiday.
Maternity action line is a website/phone number who will be able to give you all your rights in your situation. Maybe carers leave once baby is here, I think you get a certain number of days before bay is 16, and it’s separate from maternity/paternity/SPL

He may be entitled to paternity leave. Just not paternity pay.

Or speak to someone, book the holiday but ask them if it can be adjusted either way if baby comes?

He could possibly take two weeks unpaid leave? But it would have to be at his bosses discretion.

I have a male colleague in a similar situation at present. He's able to use two weeks of annual leave which will start when baby is born.

In this situation most people either take annual leave with the dates being left a bit flexible, or unpaid leave. He’s just going to have to have a chat with his manager and work out what’s possible.

Thanks everyone for your help.

He is going to send his manager an email later this week. He doesn't see his manager in person as he is a mobile worker
