Does anyone work from home successfully doing something they enjoy? If so what?

I’m stuck in a job which sometimes I love and sometimes I hate, it’s part time, well paid but stressful. The reason I stay is because it fits around my dc’s, my shifts are short and because it’s well paid I only have to do half the hours I would if I changed jobs (I have some qualifications but not enough to get such a well paid job anywhere else). Both my dc’s have autism so childcare is almost impossible, I am a single parent with hardly any support from the dc’s father and not family support.

I would love i work from home. Without outing myself I have a few hobbies that I have in the past made money out of but not big money, I’m quite artistic and good with my hands and I would like to think I have some good skills but I have not got the brain to promote a business and haven’t got the money to run my own shop for example.

I’m not looking to make a fortune, but would love to give up my job and maybe earn £150-£250 pw from home.

Has anyone else been successful in doing so and if so in what area?

Can you do your job on a freelance capacity? Then you can market yourself to clients and negotiate a WFH / part WFH agreement. Freelance is fairly easy to do remotely.

I’m sorry but no matter what your skills are if you cant/won’t promote yourself and your business you are very unlikely to succeed
It’s something you can learn though and your local council business link may be able to help
Other than that you will need to look for an employed wfh opportunity
They do exist if you have marketable skills, look on the jobs board here abs Workingmums - but beware of scams

Thank you, I find it hard to promote myself, I guess I lack self esteem in that area. One of my skills should be quite easy to do, I just need a good portfolio, it’s something I can freelance I just need to be brave and approach people/businesses. I struggle with things like pricing my work as I don’t want people thinking I’m too expensive but I also need to make something,

I recently gave up my job and am freelancing now. I am a lawyer but am currently earning most of my money by writing news articles for a legal news website. I am also doing some consultancy work for a law firm and also some other legal work for an old client. So a portfolio which will hopefully bring in enough ££££ to save me from penury!

Make sure your LinkedIn profile is good, several people have approached me via social media.

Oh and go to local face to face networking events. For me I am more likely to find ways of spending money than earning it but you just never know.

I do design, illustration and copy, I work freelance because I also home educate so it fits. You do have to promote yourself though, even to earn that amount. Linkedin and other soc media is key too. It is possible but it is still hard work!

Musical instrumental lessons - so easy to fit around other commitments and I love it. Not mega bucks once insurance costs etc are taken into account, but a decent little earner and very enjoyable.
