Really want to be a nurse but how?

My dream job is to be an auxiliary nurse but i have no idea where to start. I'm 30 with 3 kids and didn't get very good grades in school but I'm desperate to have this as a career.

Does anyone know how I'd need to get started?

Degree

Would you consider doing the nursing associate course? The entry requirements aren’t as high as nursing, you get paid on the job and you can opt to do a conversion course to upgrade to nursing further down the line (I think it’s a further 18 months). Worth considering.

Oh I just saw you said auxiliary nurse - are you happy to work as a healthcare support worker then - unqualified? The easiest thing is just to contact a local hospital and join the nurse bank if they are recruiting. Then you can get some basic training and work like a temp picking up shifts where there are vacancies. Long term if you get on well places will tell you when they have vacancies and suggest you apply. That’s what I did then I had enough experience to get on to do my nurse training.

Go on the NHS jobs website and search for the hospital local to you. There will be auxiliary nursing roles advertised here and may include bank work which is more flexible with hours and shifts as you pick which ones you want to work from the ones that need to be covered. Good luck!
