Should I take this part time job for a bit of sanity?

Am bit bored and unhappy at home after almost 7 yrs of childcare (the last 3 full time). Was today offered a p/t job at M&S - customer assistant- not great pay/ 20 hours a week. Will mean lots of juggling esp with the 3 kids over summer. I have other qualifications, but just want something. Now I have it, am scared, but I think I do need something outside the house.....................whatdaya think??

Go for it. If you're bored and unhappy, your kids will pick up on it. You've been at home a long time and are ready to get back out into the world. Any job will involve some juggling of childcare, but tbh it's often not as tricky in reality as you think it'll be. Good luck.

Sounds like it would be great.

Pay not be great but better than no wage I assume plus they will have other benefits.

Could you delay starting until September - no harm in asking and if they say no just sort things out as planned.

I took a basic pay job like that soon after having DS, 9 years later I am still working for the same lot as they are fairly flexable and the work is varied and it beats sitting on the sofa with my head in my hands .

Definitely. If you're even thinking about it, it's time. Sanity beckons...

I think M&S can be fairly flexible and have family freindly policies.

will you get a discount?
cos that's not to be sniffed at...

Thanks girls - thats really made me think about it again in a positive light. Somehow overnight was thinking I would have to say no. But really, would love to take it. Just worried about kids..........

niceglasses - that sounds good.

When DD was 18 months I was very bored and we needed a little cash so I took a job at Safeway 12 hours in the evenings.

I'm still there one more child and 3 years later.
There is something nice about being able to go and do something different when the kids are playing up, even if it means you go and deal with customers that are playing up.

I was in criminal defence before I had DD so I do get comments at work about why I'm working there when I could be earning more elsewhere but the children come first and you'll find plenty of other people there doing the same as you I expect.

What I found surprising was the way customers spoke to you sometimes, but you do just learn to let it all wash over you.

Enjoy the difference and if it doesn't work out for you there is no shame in just handing in your notice and thinking again.
