Recently got a Job for a HCA within the NHS, it's taking a long time to complete, been 3 weeks since I've been offered a post, Does anyone know if the rotas are done weekly, or monthly?
Thank you

Have you had your dbs check, icy health review and references back? It took 8 weeks for mine to come back after being offered the post

Slightlyembarrased · 01/12/2018 20:44

Dbs not done yet, ive basically only had the call saying I've got it, on such a such ward and do i accept it, not in a hurry just wat to sort childcare out so that's why I'm asking about the rota! Thank you x

Hi
As pp said its probably the dbs, referencing, occupational health checks slowing things down. It may be worth contacting recruitment. Mine took about 2 months even though i was moving roles within the same trust! (References slowed me down as my manager was off). As soon as thats done you will likely be added into a rota, HCAs are precious & vital to the NHS. Good luck in your new role Grin

Justme1981 · 01/12/2018 20:47

Was typing as you posted, i would call & ask for expected start date.

NewYoiker · 01/12/2018 20:48

So I got offered the job the day after the interview, then the same day I sent off my dbs and references and I started exactly 8 weeks to do the day of my interview so I would give them a call on Monday to get the ball rolling with everything they need and don't be afraid to push them. I wouldn't expect you to start before Christmas though!

Hope that helps!

cheesywotnots · 01/12/2018 20:49

Congratulations on your new job. They are usually monthly Rota including weekdays, weekends, training and nights but change each month unless som3 staff work set shifts. Christmas and New year Rota are usually a bit different to the normal ones.

Slightlyembarrased · 01/12/2018 20:58

I haven't even given any references to them? On the application i skipped that part as I thought i wouldn't even get an interview, not filled any dbs forms out?
I'm confused haha!

They will apply for the d.b.s. they might call you about references if it's been left blank.

Ok great! Thank you

My sons going through similar having been offered HCA role on the 26th of november. He (and I) are shitting it about pre employment checks! and have been told it may take a while (2 months) in the mean time hes been looking at travel ect (a 1/2 walk, bus and train...)
In his trust, it may be diffrent for you, the rotas are 6-8 weekly

Spotlighting · 05/12/2018 20:23

They have been emailing me to say they have found me a position but the actual trust is being a little slow, so next thing will be employment checks and DBS, no idea when though.

jellymaker · 05/12/2018 20:30

Rotas are done
6 weekly where I work but it is unlikely that they will be waiting for a new rota. Much more likely that you will be filling a position that is currently filled by bank or agency. It's much more likely to be dbs application or delays caused internally. Just keep ringing HR

Mindgoinground12 · 08/12/2018 16:05

sorry to hijak thread but i have a question about rotaring. My son cant do Sunday early due to public transport and ideally cant do Tuesday late as he's on a football team (something he really enjoys and is important to his MH) as he hasnt passed all pre employmet checks yet he hasnt mentioned it, but will do when he gets phone call about start date ect. Will this be okay?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 08/12/2018 16:16

Depends on what the ward need tbh, mind. Has he though about what he’ll do if they say no to the Sunday?

Invisimamma · 08/12/2018 16:24

My dp works in NHS, although not HCA, similar level of role.

He gets rotas every 3 weeks for the following 3 weeks. There is no pattern the the shifts, allocated ramdomly over all 7 days. If we want to book or plan anything more than 3 weeks in advance he must use annual leave.

Mindgoinground12 · 08/12/2018 16:55

He will try to lift share, bus (but it would ever gut fine or be late, lift from one of use or taxi at a push. So there is ways but just not something to set in stone. Hes also learning to drive so shouldnt be a problem soon. As mentioned before though he has addtionel needs so it something he can discuss with OH.
On another note, sorry, he has uni interviews in january and february (one in each) i presume he just says these when they phone up and he uses hes annual leave entitelment

Mindgoinground12 · 08/12/2018 16:57

They also stated in the interview specification sheet that they can discuss shift patterns to fit around home life so hopefully they will be accommodating.
