Employer asking for proof of child sickness on return to work

Hi everyone

My child has not been feeling well and is currently on a course of antibiotics and recovering at home. I have informed my employer, who have stated that I need to provide proof that my child was actually unwell when I return back to work. I am completely confused to what type off proof I need to provide or if I am even obligated to do so.

Dh works for the civil service he doesn’t get paid if dc are sick. However any hospital admissions and day case operations for the dc are paid leave.

A zip lock bag with some vegetable soup in it would be tempting..

Wouldn't it just!

@daisypond actually I've always been paid when off with dc due to sickness. I felt so guilty after a 3 week holiday (booked) to drive dd3 to school on the first day back before going to work only for her to vomit all over the car. I called my employer who I think heard the panic in my voice and said not to worry he'd see me in 48 hours. I do go above and beyond though. Actually never had an employer not pay me when dc are sick - luckily it's not often and Dh and I share but chicken pox x3 could have been a nightmare but employer was amazing. I think the hassle of changing the pay isn't worth it.
