I've been at home with my kids since 2012 but my youngest starts school next year and I'm thinking about what I'd like to do in the future.
I previously had a successful career as a interaction designer which I could possibly go back to and while the money is good I no longer feel passionate about it anymore. I'm not sure if it is a lack of confidence after so long out of the workforce. I did consider doing a post graduate in HCI but I'm not sure this would drastically change the opportunities i would have.
The other day I saw something about the shortage of child psychologists which seemed really interesting, particularly as the field covers research into things like autism and autism spectrum disorders. My eldest daughter is currently going through an assessment for a possible ASD so the thought of being able to do something to help other children in a similar situation feels like something positive out of something negative iyswim?
So I'm looking at going down the route to become either an educational psychologist or a child psychologist (clinical?) - I assume the latter is incredibly hard and competitive?
I'm late 30s currently and looking to study in London via a university locally or possibly open university but I'm concerned with OU that I would lose motivation or get distracted. Anything I can dip my toe in before I go the full hog? Any other advice generally?
