Can i apply for voluntary redundancy after 17years of service with a company.

Hi everyone, l have worked 17 years for ISS (a big contracting company) as a ward hostess in an NHS hospital. Although, they dont offer career development opportunities, l have tried severally to cover shifts for supervisors. And even though i have the skills and experience to do this, l always get rebuffed and less experienced staff are allowed to cover these shifts.
I thought if i could cover these shifts, it would help further my career and maybe apply for a supervisory role.
I feel unappreciated and l was thinking of applying for voluntary redundancy. Can l do this even though the company did not offer voluntary redundancy to staff? Do l have legal rights as an employee to initiate the voluntary redundancy process?
Regards

If your role isn't redundant then surely not..?

You could ask but unless there is a redundancy round is ongoing or planned or they were willing to pay to get rid of you then I’m not sure why they would give it to you in these circumstances. Particularly because your length of service means you’d be relatively expensive to get rid of.

Ummm, redundancy isn’t something you apply for, voluntary or not!

Imagine how rich everyone would be if you could apply for redundancy every time you wanted to change jobs Grin

What ChocolateCard said Grin

Not unless they are going to offer you redundancy or mar? Can't just ask for it I don't think

You can apply for vr but only as part of a redundancy consultation process in which your role is disappearing or they are looking to reduce headcount with fewer positions available at the same level.

You have no rights to request voluntary redundancy. What a strange thread

How are you going to pay your bills of you have no job ? You can quit your job if you are unhappy, but you will receive no big pay out from your employer. Secondly, if you quit your job voluntarily, you will NOT receive any benefits for a long time. Why don't you look at job vacancies in other hospitals or other businesses. However, you need to take into account travel costs, holiday entitlement, pension etc if you moved to a new employer

I wouldn’t bother the ISS redundancy is just statutory minimum.
Have you looked at the internal vacancies ? Are there any in your area or are you willing to move? Maybe change roles?
I know some people who work for them to they talk the talk but don’t walk the walk over most things.

ISS is an international company
If you are in UK job seekers allowance for an adult is only £73 a week, but you may receive some other benefits on top of this like housing. I would get a new job with a contract in writing (not an email) before you resign from your current job. I've been made compulsory redundant and it is not fun ! Be careful what you wish for !
