How long would you give it if you started a new job and it just wasn't for you?

You start a job. It's nothing like you thought it would be. Majority of work appears to be basic but time consuming admin which wasn't mentioned in the job description. Meant to be a professional type job. What would you do? Get out quick or hang in there? For how long? Very crappy day today. Just wondering what others might do.

For context, DH earns more than enough to support the family, so my (small) salary would not be particularly missed. This is my first job back at work after being a sahm for 10+ years.. Was meant to be restarting career. Would be excellent if I wanted career as pa but I don't.

What job is it? Did you do that line of work before taking time out?

No point hanging on in there if money isn't an issue and you wanted to start a new career. Speak to them about it, say this isn't what you expected, and give notice if they haven't got the right job for you. Otherwise you're just wasting time.

What role were you expecting? Have they completely oversold the JD to you?

If you've been out of the workplace for the past 10 years, it may well feel painful to feel like you've lost your standing and any seniority you had gained prior to DC.

If this is the case, then try to put it behind you in terms of allowing yourself time to get back on the pace again. Don't be too hard on yourself, take things one step at a time.

It depends if you want to be back in the workforce long term. If you do, I'd stick it out until you get something else. It's much easier to find work when and you're already in work, especially if the job "sounds" right on paper, despite the reality.

Whole team is meant to be doing something quite interesting (think organising much needed professional development opportunities in an important sector) but senior leadership has changed priorities which means we are all doing basic admin (think organising logistics for meetings, eg booking rooms, sending out papers etc). Looks unlikely to change for foreseeable future. Very small team. All very unhappy and suspect all will leave within 6 months. Would be very surprised if my boss is not already actively looking around for a new job. His line manager is very difficult.
