Has anyone ever been suspended from work ? Is it possible to go back after ? Very stressed with this

Depends on what you were suspended for I suppose.

If they wanted you gone you'd know by now so just think of it that way and try not to stress too much.

SillySallySingsSongs · 05/11/2018 08:52

Depends on why you are suspended for starters.

ListenLinda · 05/11/2018 08:53

It does depend on what you were suspended for.

Hopefully there is a way back for you though OP.

Greyeye · 05/11/2018 08:54

It depends on the reason, OP. What happened? Was anyone else involved?

I hope you are ok Thanks

Suspension happens when a complaint has been made and the subject is removed from the workplace whilst it is investigated. It’s usually cases of suspected dishonesty, or allegations of bullying/harassment. In the latter case, even when the accusation might be frivolous some businesses (especially those will over-enthusiastic HR people) will suspend the accused person.

Can I be very frank? It can be hard to return to work after suspension. Are you in a union? Contact them now. If not, ask around your friends for a recommendation for an employment law solicitor. Often the solution is an exit via a compromise agreement, under which you leave with an agreed clean reference and a lump sum. You will need advice and representation.

Good luck. I see many spiteful grievances in my role. Only you will know whether that’s true in your case.

Suspended due to being unfit for work due to DV

OP posts:
LIZS · 05/11/2018 09:12

Are you not signed off sick rather than suspended?

Sundayblues13 · 05/11/2018 09:14

Nope defo suspension pending an investigation

OP posts:
SillySallySingsSongs · 05/11/2018 09:14

In what way are you not fit for work? I'm not following.

Caprisunorange · 05/11/2018 09:15

What did they put in your suspension letter? Because they certainly won’t have put that....

SassitudeandSparkle · 05/11/2018 09:15

As the perpetrator or the victim?

LIZS · 05/11/2018 09:15

Investigation into what? Did something occur at work?

Cherries101 · 05/11/2018 09:16

If you’ve breached sickness policy yes they might suspend you while they decide how to proceed. Get a union involved if you can.

Bumpitybumper · 05/11/2018 09:17

Does OP mean diarrhoea and vomitting by any chance?

Sundayblues13 · 05/11/2018 09:18

Yes they have ! I I haven’t breeches the sickness policy . They are investigating whether I’m fit to do my job as they believe I’m not due to being a victim of DV they I’m unable to safe guard my DC . Actually feel like a criminal when I’ve done nothing wrong

OP posts:
Topseyt · 05/11/2018 09:21

Do you mean diarrhoea and vomiting or domestic violence when you say DV?

If diarrhoea and vomiting then how much time off have you had over the last few months? Have you seen a doctor if it is very frequent?

PoisonousSmurf · 05/11/2018 09:21

How is your work being affected by home life? Or do you work in a public space and they are worried your partner will barge in and attack?
How come he hasn't been arrested?

Sundayblues13 · 05/11/2018 09:22

Domestic violence

OP posts:
Topseyt · 05/11/2018 09:24

OK, just seen your update. I think you need legal advice.

Are you out of the violent situation/relationship? Or is it still a factor? Do you have the help and support you need to get out?

SassitudeandSparkle · 05/11/2018 09:27

Is safeguarding children or vulnerable adults a part of your job?

StateOfTheUterus · 05/11/2018 09:27

Are you a teacher, or in some other role with children?

I have a friend who was suspended from her job after DV when she chose to stay with her partner. Her children were allowed to stay in the home but put under child protection. She didn't tell her employers - the LADO told headteacher and she was suspended. In the end she was reinstated though. Hope it works out for you

LIZS · 05/11/2018 09:28

Are you having to take time off to deal with dv and your dc? What has triggered an investigation? Do you work with vulnerable adults or children if safeguarding is an issue?

Oakmaiden · 05/11/2018 09:29

Ah - this is ringing bells.

I seem to recall having an abusive partner may affect your suitability to work with children, in some way that never entirely made sense to me...

StateOfTheUterus · 05/11/2018 09:39

Yes oak its disqualification by association if you work in a childcare setting. There's been an update recently but I'm not exactly sure of the details.

Cherries101 · 05/11/2018 09:44

Okay so domestic violence. Surely this is only a problem if you stayed with the idiot who was violent to you. Why did you do that?
