Anyone work in the NHS? Want a rant about AfC?

I do! I get banded, a year later they change their minds (without consulting me) and downband me without following proper procedures. Then they cut my pay as well, when I am supposed to be on pay protection. Luckily I am in a union and they are trying to resolve it for me but I hate the way our NHS treats its staff.

Anyone else want to join me?

oooh thats harsh!

What band are you in?

mylittlefreya · 18/06/2007 20:48

Aaargh! I'm thinking of and trying to walk away. That sort of thing is all to common, it seems. I just am not too sure what to do instead. What area are you in?

My DH works in the NHS and his team have affectionately (!!) renamed it the Agenda for chaos!!!

Cloudhopper · 18/06/2007 20:53

Poor you. I have every sympathy. Our department went through a year of demotivating chaos. If it helps you are certainly not alone.

Can't really rant in case anyone recognises me!

I'm still waiting...and waiting...and waiting...latest is that we'll definitely hear by August but they've said that before

Sixofone - that's a shocker! Are you with Unison?

bookthief · 18/06/2007 20:55

Sorry, just reread and you're with a union. I'm expecting an upgrade as I'm currently out of sinc with other staff doing the same job as me in out Health Board but hey, who knows...

Ah-ha! KNEW I'd put this post somewhere!! I was on 7, then they downbanded me to 6. I'm in Amicus, who have been pretty helpful. I can't say too much either but I'm an AHP. Now doing some private work on the side

Bookthief - that's atrocious that you've had to wait so long. You should get a nice lot of back pay tho! How did they manage to get you on a lower band to everyone else I wonder? Doesn't make any sense that does it?

I have had the what do to dilemma as well Freya, don't want to lose my pension by walking away altogether but am now P-T and doing a bit of private work. 2 hrs private work = whole day NHS pay I think that's the way lots of people are going to go TBH with you.

Actually they were quite upfront about it at interview. The job used to be pt and they wanted full time so they cut it from a 6 to a 5 to afford the extra hours . Was all a bit dodgy but it was a permanent contract and I was willing to take the risk on AfC.

The only thing about the back pay is that band 6 is so massive I could well be placed at a very similar point to my current salary (am top of 5). Still, at least I'll have lost nothing if that happens and will start getting increments again. Very difficult getting this sort of info about spine points out of people.

Fingers crossed that Amicus whups some ass for you
