Lakshmi0921 · 02/11/2018 18:26

I am an OTT with two years of teaching experience in a Seconday School in India. I am currently in UK on dependant visa. I have been applying for various schools & agenices offering sponsorship but didn't get any response till now. Any advice on how I can improve my chance of getting interview will be greatly appreciated.

Resignation deadline is by half term, so schools should start looking to recruit very soon in order to appoint for January.

Maths teachers are highly sought after, so it should be relatively easy for you to find something.

My school (Scotland) is desperate for a Maths teacher. PM me and I will give you details. Small school with small classes and lovely community.

Schools are crying out for well qualified maths teachers. Where are you located?

I am based in Hounslow(TW5). I have done my DBS check and it is in update service. I have completed my NARIC validation as well. I am willing to relocate if the school is ready to offer sponsorship for me.I am taking private tution and have also started working as a volunteer in a local school from this week.

The standard of your written English would put us off where I work. I know it’s teaching Maths so less important (I’m a Maths teacher and Deputy Head involved in recruitment), but it’s still important as you will have to write reports.

Have you signed on with some supply agencies?

Also, the whole sponsorship thing will put off schools.

It might be worth also looking at private schools and don’t rule out Prep Schools. There are currently 200 full time Maths teacher posts being advertised on TES, plus another 39 part time ones, have you applied for any of them?!

I think it's probably your poor English showing through on your application coupled with the sponsorship thing. Ask a friend to check your applications. Good luck

I really suggest you get a native Brit to proof read your applications etc. Indian English has a slightly different style to British English, it's usually more formal. It's not that your english is incorrect, but there are stylistic differences that might prevent you from being seen in the best light. Does that make sense?
