I am on Job spec section of an application for a job I am very capable of but am slightly lacking in some areas due to having not ever been Mrs career person at the right time. I'm now 32 and have had loads of experience but a lot of my skills have been wasted, frankly. Anyway, because I'm a few years behind my peers on the career front I lack a bit of direct managerial responsibility. My field is community development/child related work and I have to demonstrate the following:

"Proven track record of managing successful projects"

Now, I've managed staff and had some managerial responsibility but until I began my own business I've always had a project manager above me. I can easily do it but I need to pad my experience out a bit. Does this sound okay? See below!

I have been involved with several successful projects which met their objectives extremely well. Barnardo's Playdays were very well received within the communities they served and we received consistently good feedback, kept to budget and provided a service to families that was very much in demand. Similarly, much of the work I began within SCMHUCF has continued and my philosophy developed taking the forum forward into a successful new era. The success of both the above projects was dependent on successful and cohesive team work for which I took some managerial responsibility.

Following the above I have gone on to set up and manage my own successful business in which I am fully responsible for administration, marketing and promotion, budgeting and consulting with clients as well as liaison with other professionals and the media.

tbh that first bit does sound very much like you're trying to pad out your experience (either that or you missed the word "manage" in the question). If I read that in a job application, it would put me off, and it would certainly prompt me to ask "so, about the Baranardo's projects you managed..." at interview.

I would just write more about the stuff you manage in your own business, and maybe mention management of staff etc elsewhere.

ps - the q doesn't actually ask for relevant management experience, just management experience. I presume there's another question in which you can talk about chjild development experience?

Thnaks. So just waffle on a bit about my business and then drop in a comment about the other work that included management?

If I was asked about the managerial experience at Barnardo's I would have stuff to say - I was responsible for volunteer and staff training/budget management, etc. so does that mean it's okay or has to go, that paragraph?

yes, put that in. just don't put the stuff in that you didn't actually manage. Unless youw ant to lie of course, but it really sounds like you won't have to. running your own business is hard work and develops a lot of skills!
