And how on earth do you get one?

ring your local children's information service for a list. or ask around for recommendations in the nursery queue, or school playground.

I minded until recently, and charged £3.30 ph, fairly standard where I am (sheffield)

bohemianbint · 13/06/2007 14:52

Really? That's less than minimum wage isn't it? I was expecting it to be shedloads...

yes, is less than minimum wage, but that is per child, so when I had 2 at once it was £6.60 per hour. Also I was looking after my own daughter too, so had no childcare costs there for me. CM's are self employed so the minimum wage does not apply.

put your post code in & have a look here

I pay £3 ph - I'm also in Sheffield, Hi PandaG!! - £30 for the day ds goes to cm. But if he went to cm for 2 plus days she would charge £25 a day. I got her details from the notice board at ds's preschool.

PandaG · 13/06/2007 16:06

Hi Monkey - have you done any of the Sheffield meet-ups? there is another one planned for the spa on West St on 22 Sept, we sit and sweat for 3 hours then go for a meal and a drink. Really good fun

Kewcumber · 13/06/2007 16:07

its generally £5 per hour in London

MonkeyandBabyBoo · 13/06/2007 16:20

PandaG - no I'm new to MN, been a member for about a month and just got the courage to start posting

Ooooh spa sounds good - went there for a hen party in April. Is there a thread for the Sheffield meet up's??

PandaG · 13/06/2007 16:25

met up thread here

collision · 13/06/2007 16:28

I pay £4 per hour for ds2 and an extra £3 per hour for the school holidays for ds1.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 13/06/2007 16:30

Kewcumber, I was told £5 per hour in london, for a mindee who has five children at once. It almost made DP quit his job abd take up childminding.

MonkeyandBabyBoo · 13/06/2007 16:32

Thanks Panda.

bohemianbint · 13/06/2007 18:14

Oooh, cheers for that link Katymac!

Devilwearsprimark....I went to a childminders to pick up an ebay product and she had 6 kids full time!

The 'math' is unbelievable.

6 kids x £4 per hour x 10 hours per day = £240 per day

£240 x 5 days per week = £1200 per week

£1200 x 52 weeks per year = £62000 before tax!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not bad money really and no childcare to fork out for! But would you really want to do that full time with 6 kids!!??

Shoshable · 13/06/2007 18:28

Collision without a assistant she couldnt have had 6 full time,(unless it was the holidays) the amount of children you are allowed full time is

3 under 5 (of which 1 can be under 1)
3 between the ages of 5 & 8

And although it appears a lot of money, by the time you have taken all the expenses out its not much, I brought in £22,000 last year, my exoenses and allowences came to £13,000 !

collision · 13/06/2007 18:31

That is what I thought Soshable but I counted them all and there were 6! I looked at her and said, '6 children full time? you must be knackered!' She was.

The kids were v scruffy and all of them were snotty and not doing a lot. She had a baby she was feeding and the rest were 2 and 3 year olds inc her own.

Maybe she was doing a few quietly without telling anyone and getting a bit of cash in hand!!

Shoshable · 13/06/2007 18:38

Sounds like it, I usually have 3 full timers and 3 after school, at the moment have a full time space that is booked but not starting till July, and I am one of the lucky ones, if you look at the CM threads alot of the girls struggle to fill their spaces, and go months with maybe only one child, way below minimum wage then.

But must admit great wage during the summer holiday but God September never comes quick enough

Chopster · 14/06/2007 07:45

quick hijack, hi collision, I emailed you. I guess you've started a job now? Congratulations.

Iwonderwhy · 15/06/2007 23:20
