DBS

I've just completed a DBS and am nervously waiting for it to come back. I spent a night in the cells a good 6/7 years ago and was released the next morning. No action was taken against me I wasn't charged I was just let go. Will this show on my record?

Depends what type of DBS you are waiting for.

Basic or Standard - probably not.

Enhanced - perhaps, if you were cautioned.

But that doesn't mean even if it does show up that you won't get the job. Something like 25% of UK adults have a criminal record.

If you were cautioned depending on what it was for I don't think it does show up as you'd be covered under the DBS filtering rules - for some cautions, 5 years afterwards they don't show up as far as I have understood it.

I extensively looked into this when I got a caution.

Long story short I found out my ex was cheating and punched him in the face. Lots of shouting so the neighbours called the police and I got arrested and repressed the next morning with no charge or caution as far as I know. It was about 7 years ago. Hoping I'll get a copy first so if it is on there I can call and explain

Released the next morning I meant. Thanks for your replies

You would definitely know if you'd got given a Caution as they'd have made you sign something saying you accept it.

You should be good as far as your DBS is concerned. Though I'm surprised you didn't get a Caution. It's normally out of their hands with instances of domestic violence (which they would class this as) and is normally dealt with the CPS. Although perhaps it was different 7 years ago.

MrsB899 · 04/10/2018 14:33

Because he had hit me I think it might have been classed as self defence

Just to clarify I was young and stupid and I'm in no way in a toxic relationship now 😆

GerddwrEryri · 04/10/2018 14:57

Sorry I didn't meant to suggest that you should have been given one or that you were wrong for hitting him.

I'm pretty sure the copy does go to you first so you should be able to check anyway.

MrsB899 · 04/10/2018 18:01

@GerddwrEryri oh no I didn't think that you did lol just in case I sound a bits nuts 😆

I think you'll be fine; you'd know if you'd been cautioned.

I've never got a copy of my check before my employer; though - the first three times my copy came a few weeks later; the most recent I didn't get a copy at all.

Unsure123123 · 04/10/2018 18:20

What you applying to do?

GerddwrEryri · 04/10/2018 18:44

Ooh okay maybe my DBS only came to me because my last one was for a voluntary role.

MrsB899 · 05/10/2018 04:56

I'm a nurse but I've been in my current job for 7 years and haven't had a dbs since

You should be ok.

itsboiledeggsagain · 06/10/2018 05:03

Copy comes to you now to show your employer so you will see it first.

Did this not show up on the previous one?

itsboiledeggsagain · 06/10/2018 05:04

I guess not due to timings. I suspect you should have declared it to your employer though. That is the deal where we work - if it might affect your vetting /dbs you declare it immediately.
