Discrimination

I’ve been on a secondment at my work for the past 9 months. This was a higher wage and more responsiblity. Being a chaotic workplace there was no contract put in place.
My managers assured me that at the end of my secondment they would find me a similar paid position. Then I told them I am pregnant. Suddenly there are no jobs coming up till next year. And I’d be going back to my lower paid position.
As I expressed my frustration with this they have agreed to continue the secondment till I start my mat leave (and pay) when I will go back to a lower wage.
I can’t help but feel that I have been discriminated against because of my pregnancy. I am thinking of going to my union rep. As I am exhausted already, just wondering others thought, and whether it is worth pursuing?

I'd definitely speak to someone about it for formal advice. Do you have an email trail or anything as evidence?

Saying they will find you a position is a far move from contractually agreeing to it. A secondment in its definition is a temporary move after which you are expected to go back to your old position of similar level role.

There are many reasons why they might not have been able to keep their promise, even if in your case, the pregnancy is the likely reason.

Don’t see that you have a leg to stand on.

Your were on secondment.

Do you think there is a job and they’re just not telling you about it? Or are you expecting them to create one just for you?
