Asking to postpone interview - would you?

I applied for a part time job recently and almost immediately received a rejection. Interviews were scheduled for this week. Then at the end of last week I had another email saying the rejection was a mistake and today the offer of an interview for Friday! The problem is it's now really short notice to ask for AL and I'd feel I have to explain why. Not too keen on current employer knowing I'm off for interview, although they won't be staggered I'm moving on I'd rather keep interviews under my hat until I have a definite offer. We are also quite short staffed so although I'm sure it would be possible to attend this week it would be a pita all round. Would it be cheeky to ask if the date could be put back until next week? I would really like this job just want to be fair all round!

Certainly ask. It.shows loyalty, that you won't just take a sick day or lie to your current employer.
If they are considering you, they will wait a few days.

I wouldn't ask, I'd take leave or sickie just to make the interview
You postpone and someone else might grab it

I would ask if they can interview after hours or later in the day, say 5ish instead if you could leave a bit early. They will want to move things along at their end - don't make it too difficult.

No harm to ask. For junior posts, we can generally be quite flexible. For more senior posts, the answer is usually no because it's impossible to reconvene the interview panel when several senior managers are involved - our diaries get booked weeks in advance!

Mixed response! I wouldn't take sick leave. I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and tell my manager tomorrow. I imagine it's a panel.

Why do you need to tell your employer why you need the day off? Just make something up. Don’t tell them you need it off for an interview

Ask. Where I work interviews often end up spread over different dates to accommodate candidates' availability.
