Dp has just come in and asked me to "do him a cv"
He;s come up with this personnal statement, can anybody make it sound good, there seem to be too many I's in it
I am a conscientious, hard working individual with an eye for detail, am a punctual, reliable
person who thrives under pressure - I enjoy working to, and meeting deadlines.
I am an understanding and easily approachable person who is always willing to learn.
I also enjoy life and am always ready for a challenge.
I can interact with all types of personalities on both a professional and a personnel level.
I have excellent communication skills both verbal and written, and have high expectations of
my work and always work to a high standard.
I am a happy father of two young boys and I have a good sense of humour.
I can work on my own initiative, as well as part of a team.

In my opinion you can never 'butt' yourself up providing you can back all of the 'I's up with a statement.

The CV has to talk about you, not your previous manager etc.

Should have said, let him put it in, but be able to back up every part of it:-

I am conscientious, how?

I am flexible. How?

IYNWIM

I think my first message should have said, you can never butt yourself 'up' enough providing you can provide evidence of that skill.

UCM · 07/06/2007 21:53

Depends what sort of job he is after, but if you call yourself hardworking, give an example.

ie) you were a lumber jack in Canada for a while.

Not really, more like you were working on a project that involved teamwork and you all put in that extra hour.

Gosh I am a bit long in the tooth.

castrolgtx · 07/06/2007 21:54

He is a builder, going for foreman type job

Ok, so he needs to be able to communicate with people and I expect that we both know the sort of people he needs to communicate with.

Castrol have you got the CAT facility because I can't write this off the top of my head.

Hello
Sorry didn't come back, had a bit of an argument and told him to do it himself!!!

He is confusing the personal statement with key skills. He needs to drop all the "I's" - too arrogant and repetetive. Also drop the personaol father bit. Other bits are a bit vague like 'i enjoy life'. Doesn't sound professional/work related enough

I would do the following

Name
Adress etc

A conscientious, hard working XXXXX (EG HR Professional) with an eye for detail who thrives under pressure. (then a bit about the years experience and types of industries - beef it up a bit)

KEY SKILLS

@ Ability to communicate at all levels
@ Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
@ Capable of working on my own initiative, as well as part of a team
@ Ability of working under pressure to meet tight deadlines
