Am I less likely to be the successful applicant as not at risk?

Name changed for this which is fairly evident from name!
I have been covering a role on a temporary secondment basis (was approached) and it's now being recruited to.
There are a few people at work at risk of redundancy. I'm wondering whether an 'at risk' person fulfilling the minimum criteria would legally have to be recruited in preference to me?
I hope that doesn't come across as mean spirited, I really don't want my colleagues to have to face redundancy but I'd really like this job and feel like I could be at a disadvantage in the recruitment process.

Presumably your pre-secondment role is still available for you to return to. If so, yes if a consultation process is taking place then your employer should be looking to mitigate against compulsory redundancies. It’s standard process to put a hold on the recruitment process for live vacancies during a redundancy process. If your role is considered a suitable alternative or it is realistic that your employer could support a colleague to work in your role then these colleagues will be considered for the role in the first instance.

Whilst it’s not ideal for you, hopefully you will have gained some valuable experience which will help you to secure the role you want in the near future.

Thanks user, particularly for your kind words. It's a relatively specialist role (although not that senior) so I'm hoping I'm still in with a good chance. However, it's good to know the reality of the situation. Also my manager in my previous role which I could return to is brilliant so there's a big 'silver lining'. :)

I know in my work priority is always given to those whose jobs are at risk and this is stated in job adverts too.
