Hi all

Long story short!! I have been with my employer 3 and a half years pt initially and then full time. When I went full time permanent I had it put in my contract that I could have flexibility around my LO. In this time I think I have only had one unplanned day off.. I am really lucky me and my OH have been able to work around sickness etc. Today my LO started school. I asked for permission in advance to have flexible working to get him settled in and it was granted by the board of directors. Today I confirmed it with my immediate 'superior' only to be told yes and then my colleague text me saying that the 'superior' had been really rude and unpleasant about my flexible working. For the first week LO is in half days and I had planned to work from 6am-12 and then when he went to bed to make sure I didn't let anyone down.

I am not sure where to go. Our 'superior' has been getting worse belittling members of staff, been down right rude and abusive. We have made a complaint but now to make me feel worse i have found out after trying 6 months we are pregnant. I really do not want to have to tell her or of snide comments about going for appointments etc. We are a small team and used to work well but for the last 6 months it seems 'superior' is on a power surge. Sorry for the long post now at my wits end and can't even move job.

Congratulations!

Re the snide remarks as reported by your colleague - as your manager hasn't tried to stop you using your contracted flexible working, I'd ignore it as she hasn't made an issue of it to your face. If she does - keep the evidence (make sure you get an email trail) just in case you need to escalate it. In the first instance, remind her it is in your contract.

As for statutory time off for ante-natal appointments - if she even tries to make life difficult/make comments etc you will really have to approach HR or her direct manager.

What was the outcome of the complaint? Was it formal or informal?

Strange structure 'superior' does not officially have the title of manager is a senior. Doesn't like the fact that we do not report to her per say. Waiting to hear the outcome as the board were doing some investigations as it wasn't just the office that she was being 'horrible' about.
Just really at my wits end as I can't leave now and I really love my job.
