Help! I have an interview...

Hi everyone

I've just found out I have an interview next week and I'm panicking! I haven't had an interview for quite a while and I suffer with anxiety and I'm so nervous and panicked about it I have thought of pulling out even though I would like the job. The role is in the place that I already work so I will know the people interviewing me which makes it even worse, I am so worried I am going to freeze and make a fool of myself and then I have to work with them afterwards, I will feel so embarrassed. I have no idea of the sort of questions that will be asked and I also have a pre set task to do which I have no idea where to start.

Does anyone have any advice? I don't want to pull out but I'm so anxious about it.

xx

Hi Gemi. Try to view any nervousness as excitement about this opportunity. (Excitement actually feels almost the same as anxiety.) Wear something you feel good in and try not to overthink any questions. They're just an excuse to chat to you and see how you come across. And they know you already because you work there, and they already know you are qualified and capable otherwise they wouldn't have invited you for the interview. So everything is really positive and looking good.

Maybe try taking a couple of Kalms the night before and on the interview morning. Lots of people swear by them - it's a natural herbal remedy. And remember to smile! They will WANT you to succeed, and I'm sure you'll be fabulous! Good luck!

The best way to prepare for an interview is to ....... prepare. If you google you will get a list of possible questions - right down bullet point answers. What kind of interview is it? Will they be asking competency based questions? Experience questions?

A common question is "tell me about a time when you (insert situation) and what you did, and what the outcome was".

Don't be scared to take notes into the interview with you - it shows that you have taken time to prepare.

Get the job description and highlight key things that you think are important to the role - write down examples of these within your own work.

Do you have an idea of the pre-set task?

Good luck.

Thank you for your advice. I'm going to look through the job description again and try and think of possible questions, I really struggle to come up with examples of things that I've done so will need to think about that. I have the task and I don't know where to start to be honest. I can't really say much about it here as it's very specific to the field so I'm worried it could be outing but I'd like to get it done as quickly as possible so I can concentrate on the questions but every time I look at it I panic and can't think where to start.
