I understand that if you are VAT-registered you can buy things like toner cartridges VAT free by registering at Amazon, etc.
Is that right?
Is there any advantage? Does it save you accounting for the VAT?

You get clearer invoices and only rarely have to chase the business for a VAT invoice.

When you're VAT registered though it doesn't matter where you buys stuff - if it has VAT, and you buy it for the business, you can reclaim VAT (you need a receipt or invoice that details the VAT).

You still pay the VAT to Amazon, but then may be able to reclaim it back from HMRC via the VAT return. The downside being you have to pay over VAT on your sales/income.

It's imports from outside the EU that you can get VAT free if you give the seller your UK VAT number.
