Should I ask for more money?

Without going into too much detail I’m being expected to do A LOT of extra work which is work of less responsibility than what I usually do.

Should I ask for a pay rise to reflect this?

A lower level of responsibility? What would be the basis for your requested pay rise? Is it going to require an increase in your hours?

Just more volume of work really. To be expected to do the work of 2 people.

Same hours for now.

I think I’d only pay you for increased skill or responsibility. If you are in work, you might as well be working on whatever needs doing that you are skilled for. If it’s two people’s work, does that mean you’re doing lots of unpaid overtime?

Other than when people are paid purely on the basis of work completed, pay is not determined by volume of work/how busy you are. So if your hours will be the same, and you are not taking on any additional level of responsibility, I can’t see what argument you’d have for more money.

If you don’t have capacity to complete the quantity of work you will have in the hours available, a pay rise won’t make any difference anyway. If that is the case, you need to discuss it with your manager in terms of which tasks should be prioritised and which can be left/assigned elsewhere.

OP, you may not get more money but you should always look to improve the working conditions for yourself. So you don’t have to grin and bear it (hopefully not bare it!😉) if it’s not working for you.
