Do you have an LLB but don't work as a solicitor/barrister? Please tell me what you do.

I work in Tax at one of the Big 4.

Racecardriver · 27/08/2018 20:50

@lillylollylandy big 4? As in Australian banks?

No as in the Big 4 accountancy firms. Deloitte, EY, KPMG and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Blue136 · 27/08/2018 23:06

On the whole I love it but it certainly isn't a job for everyone!

The risk and compliance field have many people with LLBs who never managed to get a training contract but do alright.

SerendipityFelix · 27/08/2018 23:20

Not me but two friends, one is a marketing manager, other in IT.

Singlenotsingle · 27/08/2018 23:21

I was a chartered legal executive (retired now).

TheCraicDealer · 27/08/2018 23:24

I know of a few Loss Adjusters with LLBs.

Social worker

TreaterAnita · 27/08/2018 23:57

I am a lawyer but would second the risk and compliance suggestion, it’s a big deal post GDPR, lots of opportunities.

blueshoes · 28/08/2018 09:08

Agree with Treater.

Apart from GDPR, anti-money laundering (AML) has been around for a while and also throws up a whole compliance industry with career track in many major financial institutions, law firms and other sectors. There is also regulatory and professional compliance relating to Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).

I am afraid the compliance industry is full of acronyms.

Basically compliance has gone ballistic with lots of new legislation being introduced and coming online (e.g. GDPR) and increased focus on existing regimes (e.g. AML). This throws up opportunities to get into fast growing and developing areas.

If OP does not live in London, many major banks and law firms have re-located some of their back office functions into bigger cities in the UK outside London. Therefore, this is not just a London thing.

Racecardriver · 28/08/2018 11:07

Didn't realise compliance was such a big thing these days. I just part way through an LLB and considering my options. I've been advised ahai at accountancy and banking seems really male dominant (to the poibt where I think my sex may hold me back). Is there anyone out there wlrkikng in consultancy or insolvency?

Obtained LLB many years ago. Career started off in public sector, as an insolvency investigator, then moved to the private sector within the insolvency industry. Subsequently moved into the Banking industry and have been working in Risk and Compliance for the last 4 years.

AsleepAllDay · 09/09/2018 01:16

Yes! Work in legal publishing/journalism. My boss was a solicitor

theaveragewife · 09/09/2018 01:17

I’m in compliance! (Apparently not uncommon)
