Work have not paid me

Today is my payday and my work have not paid me. I have been on maternity leave since may. Received nothing regarding my pay however did give in mat b1 form and so on. Everything was okayed by hr and off I went. I've been being paid consistently since may however today was not paid. I got my payslip yesterday with the balance and called them straight away. They then claimed I had never been on maternity, they never had the correct documents (they did) and so on. They said if I sent my sons birth certificate over by email I would be paid tomorrow. I did that, and no pay. I rang them this morning they said they are processing my maternity now, however I won't be paid for another week. I said no that is no good enough, this is you error and you and leaving me with no money!
Anyways I've been arguing with them back and forth and it's now with a hr business partner. They are just point blank refusing to pay a chaps payment today. Where do I stand :( I have 0 money.

The instant bank transfers cost money so they will resist! You'll need to push them on that one tbh.

I'm not clear on some of the information you've given. So you didn't receive any written notification on your maternity leave? Is it possible that you've just been receiving your normal pay or have your payslips stated SMP on them? Because it would seem that they have not put you on maternity pay at all and may need to recalculate your wages.

@SassitudeandSparkle yep I'm pushing on the payment for today, it's with a business partner now who is going to call me back. Basically I had my maternity confirmation, my payslips go onto an internal system we view in work so I just assumed everything was as it should be. However someone at their end hasn't done their job, they have just picked it up last Wednesday. I was being paid normally, even though I have contacted them a number of times with them confirming my maternity once, and the rest of the emails ignored. I'm just so annoyed I am being punished for the companies mistakes (and my managers) it's a HUGE company too, so £25 to make a chaps payement is nothing for them. I'm a single mother too it's just impossible to not have money when everything is planned around payday

I used to work in HR, not payroll/salaries so I have no idea what the company will do about their tardiness in claiming SMP but I would ask the HR rep (when you next speak to them) if it will have any impact on you.

For your information, what made me think that they hadn't put you on maternity leave was asking for the birth certificate - workwise, if you haven't gone on maternity leave the birth is the trigger point to start it.

What implications does the late claiming of SMP (assuming you are entitled to this) have on the period of your maternity leave?

It's going to be a big recalc for them so it may take them some time, but OTOH I absolutely see your point that you were expecting to be paid today! Will they make at least a partial payment and let you know of any adjustments necessary, and how they intend to go forward with this (the company should have been claiming SMP for part of your monthly pay) - what will happen about the missing SMP element and how will it be shown in your payslip? Not that I expect you to get a wodge of money (unfortunately!) but it should show on your payslip as SMP.

The most businesses have faster pay on their accounts now do same Day payments cost nothing.

It slightly smells of cash flow problems.
