Breast enlargement and work

Long story short I'm having breast augmentation in 2 weeks time.
Nobody knows I'm booked in for this as I'm a private person and don't discuss my life at work. All I've told my boss is that I'm going for medical surgery.
My question is how on earth am I going to deal with my colleagues when they ask me why my chest is so big as I'm pretty flat chested now. I don't want to discuss with them about my body, I'm not close to anyone at work.
I know that it will appear obvious but how do I avoid answering awkward questions about my boobs and what if they judge me ? People can be horrible
Thank you

Do you think they'd actually ask? No one I work with would. Can see why you wouldn't want to have the conversation though.

I don’t think anyone will notice, and even if they do, they’re unlikely to ask you if you’re not close to any of them.

ShatnersBassoon · 24/08/2018 07:58

They're not likely to say anything. Of course they'll notice, but most people would know how to act and wouldn't embarrass you.

I think it’s a bit sad that you can’t just love your body as it is, rather than wanting to mangle it and stick artificial implants in, OP.
But assuming that you go ahead with the surgery, it’s none of your work colleagues’ business. And if any of them start discussing the size of your tits, I think the words “sexual harassment in the workplace” and “ let’s take this discussion to HR” will soon shut them up.

I started 'prepping' beforehand! Started by wearing more padded bras then progressed into chicken fillets! Then when I went back to work I deliberately changed the style of clothes I wore so if anyone asked I would have just said it was the different cut or something. I also told a fib and said I had hurt my shoulder a bit to explain any twinges.
Anyway, after that no-one said anything, when I finally confessed down the line and told people non of them had suspected a thing!
Good luck!!! X

Don't tell people unless they ask! I had mine done but went up 2 cup sizes as I was flat, nothing ott.Nothing to be ashamed about imo.Took me 2 weeks to recover though so I hope you have time booked off work

eeanne · 24/08/2018 08:10

This happened to someone at my workplace, and it was obvious because she always wore the same style of very tight top and when she went from flat chested to a C cup after taking time off for medical leave, there was no way it went unnoticed. No one that I know said anything to her directly but she was a topic of gossip for some time.

IMO it would be wildly inappropriate for a colleague to say something to you directly, so refer to HR if possible if you do get comments or harassment.

Hope it all goes ok op! Do check your sickness policy though, many workplaces don't pay company sick pay if it's a elective procedure and you don't want it biting you on the arse at any point.

alardi · 01/09/2018 11:35

I'm not really getting why you want to change your appearance but feel embarrassed about other people noticing.

I imagine you can think of ways to fob folk off with vague statements or change the subject. A simple "I don't want to talk about myself" would cover everything.

Babyroobs · 01/09/2018 18:16

Just curious - does your company pay sick time for you to have a cosmetic procedure done?

SpottingTheZebras · 01/09/2018 18:26

For those worrying about sick leave after elective surgery, that is what annual leave is for. Although lots of surgery is considered ‘elective’ and covers many things which most people consider perfectly acceptable like bunions, wisdom teeth under a GA etc.

nodramallama20 · 01/09/2018 18:30

I didn't tell anybody about my my breast augmentation before I had it (other than people who who needed to know).

I thought it'd be awkward going back into work but nobody said anything! I worked from a closer office when I went back because I couldn't drive. I was asked why I was there by my colleagues and I told the women who I'd become friends with and they just asked usual questions like did it hurt etc.

If anybody asks you any questions just be vague or laugh comments off. Nobody else's business like PP have said.

Good luck with your surgery, hope you have a speedy recoveryThanks
