I don't want to be a nurse anymore!

Basically I'm a nurse, qualified three years ago and honestly I've hated it from the get go and my biggest regret is listening to everyone and sticking it out. I absolute HATE it. It makes me so miserable, I don't enjoy barely any aspect of it and especially now that I've got my little boy I don't want to be miserable around him because of work. I hate the stress. I hate coming home and being unable to sleep and feeling like a terrible nurse because I simply didn't have the time, staff or resources to do everything I wanted to do for my patients. It's so stressful and it really started to impact my mental health. I know every job has it's stressed but I do actually work well under pressure but I absolutely hate the life or death type of stress.

So what are my options? I really don't want to return to work as a nurse. I'm happy to stay in the NHS but I'd love to do something in admin - would that be possible? Believe me I've considered all different areas of nursing but the bottom line is I do not want to be a nurse anymore. It just is not for me at all. Failing that, I guess I'll have to work as an NHS month for at least 3 months after my maternity leave. If that's the case does anyone have any job/alternative career ideas?

So sorry JEBO206 I'm afraid that was me too. You get to a point where you literally cannot go in any more.

I think, when you are hospital based, you tend to think that's all there is, and the stress can become unbearable. I left the NHS for a while worked as a college nurse for a few years, with students who had severe and profound additional needs, and I loved it. School hours, too and long holidays.
I've since returned to the NHS, and I'll stay here now, til I retire, but I'm a lot more chilled, far more able to delegate and far more assertive with senior management when something simply isn't feasible.

Ive been a nurse for 10 years, always theatre or critical care and have recently moved to a unit which I'm really enjoying, however I know I won't do this forever.

My end plan is to end up as a trainer/educator of some sort. Maybe something like life support, end of life care.

Have a look around, there are hundreds of avenues that dont involve wards and direct patient care. Hope you find something!

Why not be a Disability Assessor for Capita. I was looking into this myself but they ask that you have a nursing ,healthcare or paramedic background.

My friend got into nursing 8 years ago. She has changed so many roles since being a nurse. She started off as a staff nurse treating injured soldiers. Then she changed hospitals. Was a staff nurse there for a few years. Then she became the Sister on the ward, was doing that a few years .Then she went in training the new nurses.
I myself would have loved to have been a nurse but what puts me off are the shifts otherwise I would have done it part time ,being a single parent.

Hi Jadericho, i hope by now you have already found the alternative job you were seaching for. And if still not, i have something to share.

Here’s my story:

How did i find out and changed our lives? Read through..

My name is Nelson Mamaril from Sligo, Ireland. I have been working as a full time nurse for the last 17 years now. I am also a full time dad, like most dads, want the best for the family.
I knew well the fact that my nursing profession alone is not enough to reach our dream lifestyle. With the increasing workload in the hospital and the just enough compensation, it is indeed not dependable. As the children are growing fast and as the bills are increasing, life is getting more expensive so we had to work as much as we can to the point that our family time is sacrificed.

Travel is one of the ways we can bond together. That’s why we always take our family travel as an exciting experience and fun, creating memories to save in our hearts and minds. But no matter how often we’d like to go in a year, we were most of the time limited with our finances and work commitments.

Thank God, i found this solution. A unique online business with a built in 90% done for you marketing system. Now, our lives are more flexible and worry -free. The best part, we can bring this online business anywhere and runs perfectly in automation

Why it’s a perfect solution?

  • An amazing community ready to guide and help every step of the way.
  • We have the best coaches, mentors, and IT Team to help get our business up and running fast.

I said to myself, i will regret it big time if i will let this perfect solution slip away. Thank God i took a leap of faith.

This solution could be a perfect fit for you too.
I'd like to share a Complimentary Workshop Video for you to find out.

Just send me an email at [email protected]

Best regards,
Nelson
