Tax - how do I work out if I'm better off working and being self employed or not?

I am employed at two part time jobs and am also a landlord.

I would love to give up one of the part time jobs and get the income from the rental and the other part time job.

How do I work out how much I would end up bringing home versus from this last year?

I put in a tax return obviously last year, and also have the new tax code calculation they have sent me – so I have that information, and the rental I expect to bring in this year, and wages this year.

My tax code changed (for the worse of course) because I said I would prefer to pay the tax to hmrc for the self employed income via my tax code.

Can anybody help and advise?

Without us knowing your actual numbers its an impossible question to answer

Tax is tax - (the code is just a means of collection).

The rate you pay does not vary according to 'how' you earn the money - but rather on the total from all sources.

No NI is payable on rental income.

Bear in mind that if you have mortgage interest on the rental you cannot deduct as much of it as you used to be able to.

All things being equal, if you give up a job and do nothing else, you will have less money.

(caveat, there are some special rates for dividends and savings, but not relevant to these circs)

Sorry, but that is so untrue its insane

HOW you earn the money MASSIVELY impacts on the rate paid
from carried interest
to PAYE
