salary sacrifice pension questions - good or bad idea?

Hi, my employer has sent me details about 'salary sacrifice'(paywise).I have worked there 20 years, and are on final salry pension. I now work 14 hours contracted per week, plus do say another 4 overtime per week. I was full time for 8 years and part time for the last twelve.
They tell me that I will save in tax and NI, and they will save in NI.
I believe they will put me in it, unless I sign to opt out.
Has anyone any thoughts about this please. I believe there may be implications to my pension when i retire? 39 now. Thanks

Unless there's someone on here who is qualified to give advice, thats what you need tbh, somone to look at the figures and advise whats best for you. Is there not an adviser allocated for your company that you can talk it over with?

Have they given you any projections of any kind?

it totally depends on what your set up is. does your final salary pension go on your final year's pensionable salary and are salary sacrifices deducted from your pensionable salary in working this out? or is your pensionable salary over an average of years? and what percentage is it? do you have any AVCs? it's really a minefield.

no, no projections, just a 'dummy payslip' as an example. This was on a full time wage. It was sent 2 weeks ago, and I need to sign to 'opt out' else I am in. have just a week left to do this, I think the time scale is very unreasonable.
no avcs. Thanks for your help. It is a final sal scheme, but I think it is the average of last few (2 or 5?)

You will only save in tax and NI if you would have put that money (the pension contribution) towards long-term savings. If you need it for day-to-day living expenses, then opt out.

A pension is about the most tax-efficient savings scheme there is.
