which job would you take?

I have been studying for some time and have not had FT income for ten years or so. I am now in a position that two jobs which are both perfect for me have offered.

A) has been offered to me and is part time (30hrs) term time only (but permanent) and has progression and is interesting, as well as having great perks.

B) twice as much money, is something really interesting (to me!) and is around 3 days pw plus some evenings and weekends. It is a one year fixed term contract.

WWYD? for reference I have two small children and no local support so would be paying for FT childcare through holidays etc when only working part time.

my second question is, if you work term time only how are you paid?

Oooh tough call.
Can you make a list of the pros and cons of each job?
Ultimately it comes down to which of the jobs is going to fit into the needs of your young family at this point in time? Only you can decide that, good luck

You sound more enthusiastic about the fixed term role. Is your field one in which you could be confident of finding another job when the 1 year contract expires?

Would you save anything on childcare with the 3 day a week role, or would your children be in school/nursery anyway on the days you were not working?

Have you looked at what the respective salaries would be 'net' of the different childcare costs?

Re. your other question. Term time workers in my organisation receive their salary in the same way as other part-time workers, i.e. in equal monthly payments, pro-rated for the % of full-time that their yearly hours add up to. I don't know whether all companies do it like that, though.

The one year role is for a one off event. It might not happen anywhere else locally for some time, so, whilst it would be great (for a year) and would be good for my CV it is unlikely to lead to anything related if that makes sense.

I would only have childcare costs with job 2. The other part time term time one is 9.30-3 so I can drop off and pick up. The other one i'd be looking for childcare for all the school holidays and possibly 3 days per week- however I'd have some autonomy with my working hours and would work some evenings and weekends.

All things considered, I think the permanent term-time role sounds the better of the two. I'd describe myself as a cautious person rather than a risk taker, though!
