NHS Occupational health report

Hi, I have a query about an occupational health report I have just completed having been offered a job as a driver for the NHS.
One of the questions asked if I had ever been medically retired from a job. I worked as a police officer for 25 years until 2012, I had to leave because I had ulcerative colitis, I took a year out of work to get well. I then began work as a driver for ASDA in 2013 and later the same year began work for Marks and Spencer where I still work. I also had depression in 2011 for which I still take medication. In 2013 I began a new treatment for my colitis which to this day has kept me in remission. I have not had any sick days due to depression or colitis since 2012 and in the last 2 years have had in total 2 sick days. My question is, will any of this prevent the NHS allowing me to take up their job offer? Kind regards, Mark.

Fact you’ve been provisionally offered job means you’re appointable.well done
TBH References are more of a big deal in getting an understanding of individual

This is a reply to LipstickHandbagCoffee, not sure if this is how you reply, thanks so much for you your response, it's so nice that people take the time out of their own lives to help others. To be honest it's very hard to come on to a forum like this and admit publically that you have worries in the first place. My wife and I have helped put one girl through Uni and now we have two other daughters that we want to do the same for. So, in short, I want to do my bit and help the next two along. I hope I get the opportunity with my law background that helps somebody else. Thanks, again.

I should make clear that the health report has come after the job offer and it suggests that the job offer is provisional on the NHS being satisfied with the answers provided one of which is the one relating to any previous ill health retirement, so having answered "yes" are they likely to withdraw the job offer? Thanks.

I can’t give that definite answer only your prospective employer can
I want to wish you all the best, and be reassured everyone has worries & self doubt

Given you are in work now, it's unlikely you'll have any trouble.

One of the few benefits to working for the NHS is that they have effective Occ Health. They would actually understand what UC is and that you had a new treatment that got it under control, which might be a battle with some employers.

Good luck.

Thanks Anna, I'm going to cross my fingers and hope for the best.

Congratulations on new job and hope it goes well and you get a start date

I used to work in NHS recruitment. I would suggest you answer the CIC health questionnaire honestly. What is likely to happen is that occ health might ask to see you to check whether you need any reasonable adjustments before you start work, and the line manager who appointed you might call for a chat to ask a few questions about your absence history. Just be honest. Given what you have said, in my trust be wouldn’t hesitate to carry on and appoint you. The process is not only to see if you are fit to work, but to see if you need any reasonable adjustments to help you. Good luck and congratulations on the new job.

Occ health (not CIC, sorry!)

Thanks Ploppy, you don't sound Moody but very helpful. That's helped to put my mind at rest. I'm a terrible liar and will sometimes shoot myself in the foot because of my truthfulness. Cheers for the reply.
