NHS Application - should I go for it??

Hey everyone

I’m just looking for some advice please....

A job has recently come up within the NHS that I really want, however, it specifically states that the job will be offered to employees that require redeployment within the trust primarily, and then to employees within the NHS after. I’ll be applying externally so just want to know honestly and realistically what the likelihood of me getting an interview is?

I do really want the job and obviously you do have to be in it to win it so to speak, but, I don’t want to spend lots of time on an application for it to be dismissed almost straight away. If anyone works within the NHS and can give me an honest outlook on this from a recruitment point of view, I’d be really grateful.

You could get an interview. However from the years I spent in the nhs they always prioritise the redeployment first. Try anyway . Good luck

I got my job over an existing employee. In general if you're the best person for the job then you'll get the job

Go for it. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

You might as well try, or you definitely won’t get it!

I have worked in the NHS for a number years, I would say in your application reflect what is in the job description, particularly the essential criteria. Also they look for certain phrases, mention patients in your application and your passion for patient care, even if the role isn’t direct patient care.

Also mention you’re familiar with patient confidentiality etc. Some standard phrases they may be watching out for that will help you stand out as an external candidate. But also mention what you can bring from being external.

I would definitely advise you to apply, I’ve employed externally even when internal applicants from the same organisation have also applied. If you’re a good fit you’ll get it.

Go for it. You've got nothing to lose. I work for the NHS and recruitment is a real issue. When you do the application, read the person spec and try and demonstrate how your experience matches everything they're asking for. The hiring managers will score all applications against the job spec so this is really important.

Thank you all so, so much for your comments, I really appreciate it. I’m making my way through the application, just the supporting information section to finish off!
Thank you all again!

Go for it.

What's the job? Do you have experience? If there is a contact name/number then try and go in and see them. That helps. In terms of the person spec, parrot back each item and give an example...

Organised = I am very organised person. In my role at Duff Electrics I organised the staff Christmas party for 200 people. This involved working closely with the MD's PA and the HR Assistant...blah, blah, blah....
