Help- question about KIT days

A couple of people have told me that they didn't actually do their old job when they went back- more admin-type stuff rather than getting entrenched for a day or two.

It may be slightly more relevant to my actual profession but is this the norm? Should I clarify what exactly I'll be doing on my days back? What did you do??

I am on maternity leave and taking my KiT days. I’ve mostly been having catch up meetings with my manager and my staff. I’m a senior manager so I’ve done some ‘work’ tasks as well, to keep key areas ticking over.

Thanks for your reply, it's interesting to know.

I never considered not doing a normal day until others spoke about it.

I'm a medical professional working with appointments, now concerned boss is going to book me full consults which is going to be difficult. I guess this is a conversation we need to have ahead of time, but I wasn't sure what's reasonable ie asking not to consult (or just do a few routines)

I only go in for 2 hours or so atm. I'm not expected in for the whole day. Its basically just catching up with people and projects etc. Easy way to earn a whole days wage instead of SMP!

Thanks, that's good to know! I will definitely have a good think before letting him know about the hours i'd like to work then! (He asked me to confirm this...)

I think technically you are only supposed to be paid for the hours that you work so some employers might pay for the whole day (mine did!) but others might be more strict. You can only have 10 official KIT days so doing a shorter day doesn’t mean you’re entitled to more KIT days.

On my KIT days I did training, strategy meetings and catch ups with colleagues. There was no expection to actually ‘work’ my day job. Unless you are doing several KIT days closer together eg in the run up to returning to work, I feel it would be too disruptive to even try to do so!
