Not if the reason you are turning her down is solely the pregnancy, that is illegal.

are your sure? if you need someone to do a 6-month job then someone more than 4 months pg can't do it.

If she is available to cover the period you need her for and she is the best suited candidate for the post, I don't see a reason why to turn her down.

hoxtonchick · 25/05/2007 21:29

huh!

hatwoman · 25/05/2007 21:29

chandra - that's the point - she won't be available! unless she's going to do a mozhe and just pop out to have the baby in her lunch hour

hat??? what are you waiting for, apply again! they will need you!

it's all a bit complicated and tiresome. They might only need a month or two to cover, in which case they often just ask someone to take it on without doing a recruitment (and they might just ask me) - however, if the person she's covering for doesn;t return to the post after the 6 months, then the month or two would turn into her whole mat leave. knowing that that's a possibility they might do a proper recruitment for it, even though they've only just been through one. It's an almost laughable situation - the person that the pg woman is covering for is actually covering for someone else. he;s on sabbatical and may or may not return...are you still with me?

It would be interesting to see that after x covering y, y covering z, that z ended up covering for x...

you are right, it's far too complicated.

LynetteScavo · 25/05/2007 21:58

It deos sound complicated, but I think by law, awoman can't work for tendays after having a baby. Don't know if that helps.

Not if the reason is related to the pregnancy - illegal - sex discrimination
