Working in the Civil Service- any advice?

I've got a provisional offer for an EO role in the Civil service. This is a big achievement for me and the kind of role I've wanted since finishing uni 3 years ago so obviously I'm pleased. However, I've worked p/t in retail for 2 years since having my 2nd child so this will be a big change for my family and I.

I want to do well in the role but realistically wouldn't be looking at progression until youngest reaches school age. So just wondering if anyone in civil service has any advice on how to thrive and juggle parenthood?

Personally I'd say it's a great move. The family friendly policies are great with leave and flexi too i wouldnt work anywhere else.

I second what @Bobobobobob I can't think of one downside. Flexi, leave and support is really good, I'd never go back to the private sector!

I've worked in civil service 16 years since finishing uni. It's generally a very good family friendly employed but it varies from job to job. I would definitely accept the job offer. They have so much guidance out there for line managers and staff on flexible working, flexi time and home working. You'll be fine. They also have job sharing that you can ask for so you can suggest 2.5 days a week if they're willing to let you do that.
