Notice Period

Hello. I'm in a new job. I hate it. Senior Mgmt position, the company is a poor fit for me and I cry every evening when I get home (not having cried for 10 years, is a bit of a shock)!

During my 3 month probationary review, my boss verbally told me I had passed probation. It was a few days before the 3 month mark. I told him how unhappy I was and that I wanted to think about whether I would stay or leave. Said I would think about it. 3 days after the 3 month milestone I emailed to say I was resigning.

On my contract, the notice period within probation is 1 month either way, rising to 3 months after successful completion of probation.

So how much notice do I need to serve, to be straight down the line and fair? 1 month or 3?

Well, three months. But I would suggest asking your manager whether you could be released any earlier in reflection of it only being 3 days over and you having said previously that you were considering resigning.

Have you got another job to go to? I agree with flowery's suggestion, that's exactly what I would do, however you may be glad of the continuity of income for the 3 month period, if you don't have anything lined up yet. At least you know there's light at the end of the tunnel, and any people related issues can ease when people know you aren't around for ever.

Finding a new job is often easier when currently in employment.
