Hi, just wonder how long was your maternity leave? I will go back to work when my baby will be 3.5 months. How not feel guilty going back so quickly?

It's depends I guess, who will your LO be staying with when you work? Will it be full time?

My DD was 4.5 months when I first left her with anyone other than my DH. But that's mostly because we don't have anyone local to help out.9

DS was 4.5 months and went to nursery full time. He settled very easily, and we were very happy with his care.

DD was 12weeks when I went back and she went to nursery full time. She is 14 years old now, my career would not be where it is now had I not made that decision. Our life would be inferior to what it is now and her opportunities would be less.
She loved nursery from her first day and it was the right decision for us.

good to know I am not the only one

I planned to take 12 months with my DC but returned earlier (10 months) both times as I found staying at home full-time quite challenging and needed a breakGrin I went back part-time initially and then resumed my usual FT hours after a couple of months.

I took 3 months with ds1, couldn’t wait to get back to work.

SaltySeaBird · 17/06/2018 17:03

I took 3 months with DC2 I felt I would be putting my job in a precarious position and DH split leave with me. It was fine.

I took shorter with DC1 but worked from home and had paid for childcare at home.

Sometimes you have to do what you have to do!

Back in my day that's all you got!!! In many ways it's easier they have a bond with their care givers before separation anxiety kicks in!

It’s just too you and so selfish.

Too young*

Wow postymalone, very judgemental. For some people it is the right thing, and some people can’t afford to have a long time off. I’m lucky my maternity pay was really good and we had change to save a lot of money so I’m going back to work when DD is almost one next month. DD will be in nursery 4 full days a week as we have no family close by. Everyone’s situation is different. A friend of mine went back after 4 months as she had a good job and struggled with PND so focusing on her work in the week really helped her and she found the time she spent with her DD was actually more precious. You do what is right for u x
