Would you consider this encouragement to call?

I've seen this job listed which would be absolute perfect hours for me. It also matches my relevant experience quite well (I'm a Medical Secretary at a London Hospital).

I thought the bit at the end sounded suspiciously like you'd perhaps get brownie points for phoning and having a 'chat' about things?

Perhaps I'm wrong? If I'm right, what do I say I'm calling for? I can't see any questions that I may need to ask, from the face of it everything is covered in the job spec, etc.

Thank you Thanks

No that's just if you don't understand anything. It won't give you extra points

FuckPants · 07/06/2018 12:58

Not at all, I'm a bit confused as to how you arrived at that conclusion OP? It's a standard thing that most applications have, no brownie points will be given.

daisychain01 · 07/06/2018 13:16

Nope sorry, brownie points are irrelevant. The people sifting and sorting the CVs and applications have no sway and influence over selection, that would be unethical.

It would be a hassle and problematic for them to have to justify, so you can be sure they won't overstep the mark, as it would look bad on the way recruitment was being handled.

That's a positive, surely - ask yourself how happy you'd be if you knew someone else's application was positively influenced because they picked up the phone and chatted with the recruiter. Probably not very .....

Hmm, nothing to be lost by ringing for a chat though. I think it may show extra enthusiasm by you as a candidate, which never hurts. Surely there is something you can ask...like can you take across any mandatory training you have completed in your current job. Good luck!

MyGastIsFlabbered · 07/06/2018 13:23

All nhs jobs have that blurb at the end of the spec. It won't get you brownie points.

WheelyCote · 07/06/2018 16:06

Give them a ring and have a quick chat.
Certainly won't do any harm.

I work in healthcare and it's very common for people to ring when a job goes out to advert

notaspornerhonest · 07/06/2018 16:09

I've heard from an ex unit manager who used to interview that it's a good idea to ring ahead to ask for a look round the Ward/unit etc because it gets your name in their minds.

DH went in to see them. He thought it definitely helped his cause! He was working outside the NHS.

YullBeHappy · 07/06/2018 18:54

Thanks all!

I'm wondering why it asks to call if you want to 'look around'?

Also, would someone mind telling me if they can view the link? I can no longer do so Sad

OP posts:
notaspornerhonest · 07/06/2018 19:14

Probably because they don't want strangers turning up expecting to have a guided tour due to confidentiality , staffing levels etc?!

notaspornerhonest · 07/06/2018 19:16

And I can't view the job via the link even though I'm signed into nhs jobs

stressedoutpa · 07/06/2018 19:20

No, I couldn't see the link.

I work in care and we do offer a ‘look around’. Some of our service users can display very challenging behaviour, and it’s useful to us for candidates to understand what kind of environment they’ll be working in. Care settings can be very different, from elder care, to supported independent living to service users with severe brain injury and inappropriate behaviours.

This way people don’t find themselves upset or surprised about what is expected of them & allows them to make an informed decision if the role is right for them.
