Hello Mumsnetters,

I’m an ex journalist currently in the process of setting up an online lifestyle magazine aimed at smart, educated women living in the countryside. We’ll be covering lifestyle, beauty, fashion, restaurants, home and events - rural news with an urban twist.

I’ve got a couple of potential names for the site:
Escaped to the Country
Chicks in the Sticks

But I’d love to know what you think of these? Do they “grab” you? Has anyone got any better ideas??

Thanks in advance!
Anna xx

Both are awful.

boatass · 03/06/2018 12:03

Chicks in the sticks is honestly pathetic

frasier · 03/06/2018 12:06

Not keen on either, sorry.

“Escaped to the Country” has connotations of a holiday, short term, not lifestyle. It’s also been used many many times.

The other one is just not classy!

Honestly I hope you want honesty...if not then move along!... I bloody hate the word chick, actually slightly offended by it (couldn't tell you why - don't like being called 'bird' either!) and there is a programme called Escape to the Country isn't there, just sounds like you are bastardising that!?

One word would be a bit classier IMO...(sorry!!)

Reaa · 03/06/2018 12:51

Forever Fields

Forever Fresh

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 03/06/2018 12:54

Both a bit cringey. You can do better.

NC4Now · 03/06/2018 12:56

Is it a regional or national magazine? I’ve written for plenty of magazines of this type and they tend to have names like
Country Life
Country Living
Coastal Living
Etc.

The market you’re pitching at doesn’t really go for gimmicky. I think you need something more classic.

PS, feel free to PM me!

BadPoet · 03/06/2018 13:06

I don't like either, and I'm your target market. Chicks in the Sticks is particularly terrible, as someone had already covered the use of 'chicks' I'll go with why would you think of using the derogatory term 'the sticks' when you are aiming at people who live there?

You'd be much better trying to capture the vibe of the slow living movement. I'd look at that, even though my smart & educated status tends to make me roll my eyes a bit at the idealised aesthetic, but I'm still a sucker for a pretty picture.

bastardkitty · 03/06/2018 13:15

Isn't there already a vaginal deodorant called Forever Fresh?

Delphinius · 03/06/2018 16:29

Apologies. Didn't mean to post that last one. It made me laugh then I thought better of it and tried to delete the draft post.

Delphinius · 03/06/2018 16:32

@bastardkitty Ha! No just bored in an airport.
