Think I fucked up this interview

Did anyone ever get a feeling at an interview that it hadn't gone very well and then get the job? Application - great, testing - great, interview - nightmare. At first it was going well but then their faces started to disengage as I stumbled on some questions.

I feel like I've really misjudged it, it's for quite a high level post and the questions just didn't match the post level. Questions were more practical and pragmatic, and I'm just not that kind of a person. I'm probably a thinker and a planner.

Perhaps I'm finding out by writing here that this job isn't for me, but it's difficult when you are desperate isn't it? Really need a job.

Yes! I had an interview on Friday. I had to do two tasks, a role play and then a formal interview. Tasks and role play went well but the interview was a disaster. Got completely tongue-tied, my mind went blank at the questions and I walked out feeling completely embarrassed. But I got a call late that afternoon offering me the job! I was shocked and told her that I thought I had messed up the interview. She said that they could tell I was nervous, but the work I produced for the tasks was miles better than the others and she thinks I would do well in their team. So the interview isn't the be all and end all OP! Good luck Smile

It's always hard to tell, especially if the questions don't suit the role. If they ask the same questions of all the candidates then the others probably won't have interviewed well either.

I did once have an absolutely dreadful interview when the questions were just awful and I actually got quite annoyed and then bored in what was a long interview! I didn't get the job at first, but then after the selected candidate gave up the job after 4 months they asked me to cover and then gave me the job permanently.

Interviews can be so difficult! I’m sure you did better than you think you did. Give yourself credit for getting the interview in the first place, because employers look for reasons to cull the candidate pool. Good luck!

Thanks all, I actually feel a lot better knowing others experiences. Yes, the mind going blank thing, how the hell do you avoid that. I thought I was really well prepared with my reading on policy etc. in the area and then the questions really threw me. It was two months between applying and being called for interview so perhaps they don't really know what this job is.

Goof luck Ofthread (great name!)

I ballsed up an interview about 20 years ago where I was obviously, spectacularly missing the point judging by the interviewers's face/responses. To this day I wish I'd asked what the hell she was getting at Grin #notbitter
