I HATE MY NEW JOB!!!!!!!

Basically! I left my old part time job which I did for almost 8 years (it fitted around family life and wasnt a career choice) I started a new full time post around a month ago in my chosen profession which I trained in many years ago. But I hate it, the role isn’t what I expected. It’s so difficult and my gut instinct is that I’ve made a massive mistake. I cry almost every morning and dread a Sunday evening. The jump from part time to working full time has seriously affected home life. Going from 20 hours per week to almost 40 is proving difficult. I’m leaving the house at 7am most mornings and sometimes not getting home till after 6pm. The kids (we have 4) have missed out in all their after school activities for the last month as I’m getting home far too late and it’s basically it’s just, dinner, homework and bed. My DH works away and does long shifts when he is home.

I have seen a job advertised that is what I studied and trained in before I had the children but it’s only part time and I know I could do the work and it would make for a happy work/family life balance.

My only concern is that even though I studied at college many years ago my actual only experience in a role similar to the job advertised is the post I’m in currently, so my question would be. Should I put the job I’m in just now and explain my reasons as to why I’m leaving so soon? And do you think it’s a creditable reason to leave a post so quickly? Or should I just omit it from my CV altogether? Meaning I can provide any work related experience as my previous job is in a completely unrelated field?

Thank you Smile

I would apply. Work shouldn’t make you unhappy. Include your current position ( it’s recent experience) and if they ask why you want to move on quickly play on the work life balance which isn’t working currently.

How similar is the part time role? Are the bits you dislike still going to be there?

Sorry didn’t directly answer your question I think it is a fair reason and I wouldn’t want to work for a company who didn’t

Thanks Gizlotsmum for replying. The role advertised is similar in that it’s got elements of what I do currently but on a much, much smaller scale and the job it’s self doesn’t have the huge amount of responsibility I have currently have to deal with. I could basically do the job and come home and switch off.

Has to be worth a go! Worst that happens is you don’t get to interview

I did similar... and have just left after only 7 weeks. The job just wasn't ME and I was knackered at the end of the day to the point I couldn't function.
I felt awful at letting down the new team...they were nice. But it has to work for me, and the longer hours were no good for my family.

I'm in no man's land currently...doing supply back at my old place, but it's not what I want longer term. Good luck with applying!
